History Coloring Books

Angela “A. J.” Jones has been drawing since she was 10 years old. Her mother, then an employee of Sears & Roebuck, would bring home the Sears catalog to her daughter who would sketch and redesign almost every garment in the book. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Angela graduated from high school in 1983. Her interest in art and fashion led her to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, where she majored in fashion design/business and marketing. An avid reader, A. J. enjoys reading, writing and drawing historical figures.

A. J. worked in New York’s garment industry as a freelance fashion designer specializing in eveningwear. She also worked as a fashion public relations assistant, and provided administrative assistance to fashion and business executives, where she gained valuable experience in art, fashion, design, business and marketing. A humanitarian at heart, A. J. has sponsored fundraisers for churches, schools and community organizations nationwide. She believes we all can change the world, one person at a time, one effort at a time, one donation at a time.

A. J. was a volunteer for the Obama campaign in Philadelphia where she registered voters, and provided fundraising donations to local campaign offices. During the campaign, A. J. met many children around the country who expressed an interest in the lives of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama. As a result, History Coloring Books’ first series of books feature: “Barack Obama’s Journey to the White House” and “Michelle Obama’s Journey to the White House.”, both are 2-in-1 collectible edition history and coloring books combined in one. Graphics and cover designs were created by Graphic Designer, A. Max Smith, President of ProMarketing Group, also a Virginia native and Obama campaign volunteer and fundraiser. Both books are dedicated to our youth, providing a foundation for learning while coloring. Also used as a fundraising tool, a percentage of each book is donated to a youth organization in support of literacy efforts to educate America’s children.

History Coloring Books was founded by A. J. Jones in 2008 and is committed to providing educational and financial resources to children nationwide via schools, community centers, museums and children’s events. A. J.’s purpose with her books is to “teach through art”, combining art with education. Positive affirmations from our President and First Lady are featured throughout the books to encourage our youth nationwide that “it’s cool to be smart” and “brains are beautiful.” A. J.’s overall message to all readers is that “ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE IF YOU BELIEVE!”, not only a testament to the Obamas’ life story, but a message that can be applied to all readers, both the young, and the young-at-heart.

A. J. Jones currently resides in Philadelphia, PA. She participates and volunteers in local and national community events, book fairs, book signings, school events, fundraisers and other youth related activities to promote literacy and education for America’s children.
